How To Photograph Your Crafts
The absolute number one cause of rejection of DD suggestions for most Artisan Craft CVs is poor photography. There is nothing worse than seeing an otherwise brilliant piece ruined by a dodgy photo. But even beyond DD acceptance, if you want to people on dA to be able to appreciate your skill you need to be able to show your work off to advantage.
Sometimes I'll tell a self-suggester that I can't feature their work because of the quality of the photography and they'll inevitably reply, "Oh, I'll have to get a better camera."

Repeat after me: the tools never make the artist.
You don't need a $9000 sewing machine to stitch a dress, you don't need a $1000 stand mixer to bake a cake, and you similarly don't need a top of the range SLR to take a brilliant photograph. It's all in how you take the photo.
To help us understand photography concepts a little more, Fella is going to help us out. Say hi Fella!

Hello! My name is Leilia(Lay-Lee-Uh)! I live in Central Florida, and work as a veterinary technician. The rest of my time is spent as a sculptor. I love spaniels, video games, sci fi tv shows and other generally nerdy things.

I have always had a passion for art, but in November of 2010 I discovered my love for working with polymer clay. I first began experimenting with creating simple charms and figurine, but since then I have pushed myself to try many new and more intricate sculptures. I am constantly learning new techniques and trying to improve my work.

Birthday Wishes, Absense, and FWA!

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 29, 2016, 7:50 AM
Hi everyone!

Though I'm super late, I want to thank everyone for the lovely birthday wishes from a few weeks ago! I'm sorry I didn't respond to them, but I really did appreciate each and every one! Heart Heart Heart

Im sure it's pretty obvious that I am just not really active here anymore. I truly apologize for this, but with a computer that barely works, I find it difficult to be active on deviantart much anymore. If you want to see more from me, I'm very active on Twitter( twitter.com/Leiliaclay ), and I also post frequently on Instagram under LeiliaClay as well.

In in other news, I will be at Furry Weekend Atlanta in just a few days! I'll be in the Dealer's den at table 39 along with the lovely GoldenDruid , so be sure to stop be and say hi to us if you are going!

Hi there! Love your clay work!! Do you have an FAQ by any chance? I can't figure out what finishing coat to use for my sculpture work. I've heard to stay away from Krylon matte finish for being sticky, but I used it today on a test piece and nothing seems wrong, even on a very humid day. Any advice to a novice? Thank you!! :)

Hello! Thanks so much for the kind words! As for spray finishes, I have not had any issues using krylon matte finish. I use it for a lot of my work and have not seen any stickiness. I also sometimes use Testor's Dullcote if I want a completely matte finish, as the krylon still leaves a little bit of a shine. Hope that helps!

It really does, thank you!! May I bother you quickly again and ask if you use the krylon white primer before adding acrylic paint? Sorry for so many questions ^^; That should be the last question ^^;
(Ok also random but btw I adore your fursuit :aww: sorry I just had to say that X3)

I do like to use Krylon primer. I typically use the gray primer because it is more neutral, but that is just a personal preference. The primer you do have to be careful using on more humid days, I have had that become a bit sticky on occasion.

And thank you so much for the kind words on my suit, I really appreciate it! :D
