Delta-Custom Pet Sculpture

Description

I'm finally getting around to uploading this sculpture! I just wasn't happy with how the photos came out on this one, it really doesn't do the sculpture justice in the slightest. :/ I figured I'd go ahead and upload it anyways since I do like this sculpture.

This is Delta, a cute little Chihuahua/Chinese Crested mix. She was commissioned by a pet owner who comes to the veterinary clinic I work for. :) The owner requested a sculpture of her dog using a really adorable photo she had done of Delta sitting in a giant teacup! The idea just sounded to unique and fun to pass up. XD

This sculpture was quite a challenge for me. It's hard to tell from this photo, but Delta has A LOT of hair, and all of it going in different directions and such! @_@ I'm pretty sure I never want to sculpt that much hair again!

I've also decided that I will not be taking anymore commissions for full realistic pet sculptures such as this one. Although I do like a challenge, they are just far to time consuming, and honestly, I really don't enjoy doing them as much as more cartoony and stylized type sculptures.

Delta was made from Super Sculpey polymer clay over a wire and foil armature. She was painted with acrylics and sealed with a matte finish. The eyes, nose and tongue were glazed for extra shine. The teacup and saucer were purchased, then handpainted and glazed.

Oh my god wow! You did a great job with that hair. I could learn a lot from this! And I really like the teacup, too. So cute. You ever think of making a video of your sculptures? They usually show off the piece much better than photos can.
